Question I have a .vcproj file from Visual Studio 2008 that I need to open in Visual Studio 2002. How can I do that ?

Exclamation The Visual Studio files are quite similar, so you can use a quick 'hack' to 'convert' the vcproj file. Note that this method may not be as good as using a dedicated project converter:

Arrow Open the .vcproj file in a textEditor, locate 'Version="x.yy"' and change the number x.yy to the number for the visual studio version you are going to use:

Visual Studio 2008: 9.00
Visual Studio 2005: 8.00
Visual Studio 2003: 7.10
Visual Studio 2002: 7.0

You may have to delete the .sln file before opening the solution. As the .sln file contain links to multiple project files, you may have to add all the missing .vcproj files to the solution afterwards.
Make sure that you review all the settings in the properties for each project, as some options are incompatible between versions.

Remember to 'Save All' when you are done.
